Defrag – What defrag why do I need defrag my PC?
Disk defrag is the process of reorganizing all of the data that is on your hard
drive so that it is all lined up rather than scattered in hundreds of thousands
of little pieces all over your hard drive. When your files are disorganized, stored
in fragmented pieces, your computer is not able to retrieve them as quickly.
The Windows operating system naturally creates file fragments every time
you create, modify or delete a file.
The more places your hard drive head has to go to retrieve a file that is broken
up into a lot of little fragmented pieces across your hard drive, the longer it
will take to access that file. Accessing fragmented files substantially slows down
the speed and performance of your PC.
Every time you use your computer, your fragmentation levels increase. Left unhandled,
it will inevitably lead to PC slows, lags in performance, slow boot times, and eventually
an inability to boot up at all. Waiting a week or even a day to defrag, means that
your PC is working harder and slower than it should be.

Isn't the built in defrag enough?
Even the Windows built-in defrag solution can’t keep pace with the constant accumulation
of fragmentation. One of the primary concerns with relying on the built-in defrag
solution is that it does not provide a real-time solution. When you are using your
computer, you can’t run a defrag, because it dramatically slows your performance,
but this is the time when you need to make sure that your PC is running as fast
as possible.
After the fact defrag solutions, including the built-in, allow precious resources
to be wasted by writing fragmented files to the disk. Once a file is written, the
defrag engine has to go to work to locate and reposition that file. When that file
later expands, this doubling effort has to repeat itself all over again — this approach
remains a reactive band-aid to a never-ending problem.
If you have ever run a manual defrag, you know that it ties up your system resources
so you just have to wait patiently until it’s finished. Who has time to wait, especially
when Diskeeper®
performance software can double system performance over the built-in defrag
solution and it is completely automatic — so you don’t have to do a thing.
Top 7 reasons our customers stopped relying on the Windows built-in defragmenter:
1. It cannot get the job done as it is always incomplete.
2. It will not consolidate the free space efficiently.
3. The system slows down dramatically while in operation.
4. It will not consolidate system files.
5. It does not run automatically to handle cumulated fragmentation.
6. It requires at least 15% of free space.
7. Effects of fragmentation never eliminated.
Top 6 reasons our customers started relying on Diskeeper:
1. Better performing engines.
2. Prevents up to 85% of all fragmentation before it can happen.
3. Zero overhead resources. It will never slow you down.
4. Automatic defragmentation engines eliminates fragments that
were not prevented instantaneously.
5. Special engines to handle large drives efficiently.
6. Optimizes file placement for files most frequently used.
Diskeeper does more than just automatically defrag your PC. Diskeeper takes performance
to the next level by preventing the majority of the fragmentation that would otherwise
slow your PC, before it ever has a chance to.
Try Diskeeper on your PC or laptop and see for yourself why so many users are making
the switch to Diskeeper to keep their computers running at peak performance at all
times.
"I have a greater piece of mind knowing that Diskeeper is defragmenting my
files automatically, keeping them in peak condition and my computer running at its
best."
– Angela Page
"I have tried many others defrag solutions and none of them pleases me co much
as Diskeeper. Very advanced, easily configurable to suit one's needs and with very
informative reports. Diskeeper is by far on the edge of other defrag applications.
Keep up with the good work!"
– Rui Pegado Cardoso (Portugal)
"My experience of Diskeeper is that it keeps fragmentation to almost nil, therefore
everything I do on my computer is so much quicker. This is with defrag happening
in the background as I go about my daily computing without even noticing."
– Bill Cook
