How to Optimize VMware Platforms

CogniSAN technology works within a shared resource system, such as a SAN, to detect external resource usage. Without competing with resources needed by other VMs within the same storage infrastructure, transparent optimization then occurs.

To eliminate wasted unused disk space, the Space Reclamation Engine offers both notification of unused drive data blocks, as well as the zeroing out of unused virtual drive data blocks for easy compaction of virtual disks. When VMware’s Storage vMotion is utilized, disk compaction can be done on the fly when virtual disk migration is performed across physical hosts.
