Hi,

I have Diskeeper 2011 Pro Premium, Build 956 (latest build). When my Windows XP SP3 shuts down, an error is shown indicating DKService.exe has an exception error 4000015.

I've tried to uninstall/reinstall Diskeeper -- I'm still getting the exception error on Windows Shutdown. Please advise me on how I may solve this problem.

Marielle

p.s., I have 2 disks each with 2 partitions; on one disk the partition requires a password -- this later partition was created (and password protected) by Acronis True Image Home.

Hello,

We haven’t seen this behavior from Diskeeper 2011. So this will require some trouble-shooting.

First off we would like you to uninstall Diskeeper and then reinstall in what we call a clean boot.

Start your computer into a ‘selective startup’ mode to ensure that any other services running are not hindering the Diskeeper installation. This is how you do this:
Go to Start > Run
type msconfig
Select the SELECTIVE STARTUP. (Uncheck the Load Startup Items Checkbox)
Click on the SERVICES tab.
Check the HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES.
Click on the DISABLE ALL button in the bottom right.
Click APPLY,
Then OK, followed by a restart of your computer.

When the PC is booted completely find the Diskeeper installation and install Diskeeper.

Then to get the computer back to a normal startup configuration you simply launch MSCONFIG again and put the Dot back in Normal Startup, Click apply and then OK and let the PC reboot. All software will be enabled at startup at this point and back to normal.

Next is long part. Go in and disable each feature one by one and then test to see if you still get the error message.
So it will go like this:
Disable I-FAAST, then do a shutdown.
Check for error message you have been getting during shutdown.
Disable the next item, then do a shutdown.
Check for error message you have been getting during shutdown.
Etc.

Below is special instructions on how to shut down the I-FAAST measurement. Please start with I-FAAST, then the I-FAAST Measurement, then all other features one by one.

Disabling the I-FAAST Measurement in Diskeeper
To disable the I-FAAST measurement in Diskeeper, you will need to add a new DWORD value to the
Diskeeper registry key. The DWORD value is named IfaastMeasDisabled and is located in the following
registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Diskeeper Corporation\Diskeeper

The setting of this DWORD value must be set to 1

To add this new value in the registry and set it correctly:
1. Select Start – Run
2. Type regedit followed by <Enter>
3. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Diskeeper Corporation\Diskeeper
4. Select Edit – New – DWORD Value
5. Enter IfaastMeasDisabled and double-click on the registry key.
6. Type 1 for the value followed <Enter >
7. Close out the registry entry screen and select Start – Run
8. Type cmd followed by <Enter>
9. Enter net stop diskeeper followed by net start diskeeper to restart the Diskeeper service.
I-FAAST measurement will now be disabled in Diskeeper.

The report back on what feature when disabled stops the error.
I know this seems pretty extensive, but since we have not seen this before, this is what is needed to narrow this down. Sad

Yes I ran the tests (see below for outcome). By the way, my external F: drive is a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 2TB Desk (connector is usb 2.0), and my usb U: drive is Patriot Memory Flash 64MB USB 2.0 device.

The tests & outcomes are:
. uninstall Diskeeper 2010 <-- via Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs Utility
. run junk ccleaner & registry cleaners
. start Windows in "Safe Mode"
. Start > Run > msconfig > Select the SELECTIVE STARTUP > then Uncheck the Load Startup Items Checkbox
> Click on the SERVICES tab.
> Check the HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES.
> Click on the DISABLE ALL button in the bottom right.
> Click APPLY,
> Then OK <-- I got error message stating some services did not get disabled
. PC will reboot <-- Norton 360 is still running in system tray with Volume Control & Safety Remove H/W Utility
. install/activate Diskeeper 2011 (unselected Enable Diskeeper News & Info + selected Create Desktop....)
. get the computer back to a normal startup configuration:
> Start>Run>msconfig>select Normal Startup > APPLY > OK (PC will reboot)
. configure Diskeeper settings:
- selected automatic update
- unselected Disable Automatic Defragmentation when running on battery power
- selected Collect volume performance data now
- selected Display "before & after" volume maps....
- selected Permit all users to access Diskeeper
- selected Extensive Automatic Defragmentation option
. selected suboption: Consolidate directories on all volumes
. selected Always Disabled I-FAAST for all disk drives except C (i.e., disabled drives: D:, E:, external F:, USB U:)
. selected Always Enable I-FAAST for drive C:
. reboot PC
**** exception error (unknown software exception) occurred on Windows Shutdown ****
. reselected "allow Diskeeper to select I-FAAST" for all disk drives

. reboot PC <-- Windows Shutdown was successful (no error)
. install/activate Diskeeper 2010 (unselected Enable Diskeeper News & Info + selected Create Desktop...)
. reboot PC
**** exception error (unknown software exception) occurred on Windows Shutdown ****
. uninstall Diskeeper 2011 <-- via Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs Utility

. change more Diskeeper 2010 settings:
- turnoff IntelliWrite for external F: drive & USB U: drive
- turnoff Automatic Defragmentation for external F: drive & USB U: drive
- for D: and E: drives, select "allow Diskeeper to enable & disable I-FAAST when beneficial
. reboot PC <-- Windows Shutdown was successful (no error)

I hope the above tests helps you to determine the fault and thus provide me with a solution.

Let me know if you desire something else.

Hi videosmc,

One more test that our tech guys want you to run. Please run it exactly as noted with no other additions or changes ( such as running junk ccleaner & registry cleaners or collecting performance data).

-Uninstall current Diskeeper software.
-Uninstall Norton 360
-Restart the system if required by Norton 360 uninstall.
-Restart the system in selective startup.
-Install Diskeeper 2011 to a new folder such as C:\Diskeeper\
-Disable New Volume Detection
-Disable Automatic Defragmentation
-Disable I-FAAST and I-FAAST Measurement
-Disable Intelliwrite
-Restart the System
-Enable Intelliwrite
-Restart the System (Check for Error)
-Disable Intelliwrite
-Enable Automatic Defragmentation
-Restart the System (Check for Error)

You can then reinstall Norton 360 and enable other services.

What???

It's the latest version of Diskeeper that I am having problems with. My problem is with Diskeeper 2011 Pro Premium.

Diskeeper 2010 Pro Premium runs OK -- there's no problem with this version.

Again I repeat, my problem is with Diskeeper 2011 Pro Premium.

Re-read the problem report and take note of the versions that I note throughout all the lenghty tests that I preformed as per your organization's request.

Now I am a bit puzzled and concern. Please assure me that someone is seriously looking into solving this problem for my operating system: Windows XP SP3 Home c/w all updates excluding Search V4.

Darn it, I reinstalled the older version of Diskeeper (i.e., Diskeeper 2010 Pro Premium) because that version works without any errors. Do you want me to repeat all the tests again and then email you the controller.log?

Darn, it would have been nice to have been requested this earlier. Let me know what I should do.

By the way, why did I get a weird request from Draich; see,
http://webmail.telushost...vcr90-dll.aspx%23post58

Draich is under the impression that my problem is with an old verison of Diskeeper. Did he not read this incident report and the outcome of all the tests that I did??? I am now puzzled and worried that the developers are not taking this problem seriously.

Signed,
a long-term loyal customer who is now concern due to resolution-work exerted on my 1st incident report every issued to Diskeeper Corporation

Exactly the same problem. Tried with registred version (Pro), with cracked version (Server) - the same problem. Different builds with latest 966.

XP32+SP3. One second before reset/shutdown information from DSKService.exe (not always but often).

Hi,
With a valid install of Diskeeper and the problem occuring, please do the following:

1. Get a copy of the Application Event Log

  • To get this, you can select Start and Run and type EVENTVWR

  • Then click on Run.

  • From there, expand the Windows Logs

  • Then right-click on Application to select Save Event Logs As.
Make a note of where you saved the file.

2. Get a copy of the Diskeeper Controller log.
  • Go to the folder where Diskeeper is installed.
    Usually C:\Program Files\Diskeeper Corporation\Diskeeper

  • Find the file named controller.log.

Please send both files via email to webmaster@condusiv.com and put in the subject line For Ernest - FORUM.

Please note that Condusiv never recommends nor condones using a cracked copy of ANY software.

1) no errors in Evt - logs are clear
2) sorry, I cannot send controller.log - I downgrade to 2010 for safety issues - it looks like memory leak or dll incompatybility, so I aware of my data.

Hey, is it possible that I stil have FDD drive? After some test I find that BSOD or error is connected when my FDD led blink - very close before planned shutdown.

Does Diskeeper show that it can see the floppy drive? I would not think that is the issue regardless. But you said that you down graded to Diskeeper 2010. But not that the issues were continuing. But if you are getting a BSOD at this point, then I would suggest that you submit a ticket with Tech Support and work with on of our support reps to get this fixed.

Yes, I downgrade to 2010 and it looks stable, no information, no errors. But in this very moment I had 2 BSOD during last month - this is the same moment when 2011 create error, and FDD blink with led on 2010 and 2011. During BSOD FDD works non-stop.
