Solid state drives (SSD) are generally considered to be faster, more powerful, more
efficient and in some respects more reliable than hard drives. The problem is, they
start out fast but gradually lose speed and, over time, become subject to failure.
Most SSDs experience a dramatic and noticeable deterioration in performance. They
also possess a limited number of erase–write cycles, which can result in a short
lifespan with large amounts of write I/O.
SSDs require that old data be erased before new data is written over it, rather
than just writing over the old information as is done with traditional hard drives.
This doubles wear-and-tear and can cause major issues.
HyperFast® technology, included with
Condusiv’s Diskeeper® 15, produces faster performance in
solid state drives running on Microsoft operating systems. The HyperFast feature
includes TRIM functionality and is enabled only if a solid-state drive is recognized.

How does fragmentation affect SSD performance?
The principle issue is write speed degradation due to free space fragmentation.
Small free spaces scattered across the SSD cause the file system to write a file
in fragments to the small pieces of available free space. This can slow write performance
SSDs can write only so many times to the drive: they have a finite number of writes
they can perform. Due to the doubling effect of needing to read and erase before
it can write again, SSDs undergo twice as much use—shortening the life of the SSD.
All SSDs can suffer from these issues unless
Diskeeper 15 is used to optimize the solid state drive.
Diskeeper 15 offers a proactive approach,
preventing degradation in SSD performance by eliminating nearly all fragmentation
from occurring at the Windows level, before files are written in a performance-penalized
state. With its patented, proactive IntelliWrite® technology, Diskeeper 15
keeps laptops and workstations running like new, resulting in increased productivity
and lower costs by extending the useful life of existing hardware. IT professionals
who support a fleet of laptops no longer wrestle with persistent performance HelpDesk
Where typical defragmentation utilities consume resources to operate, and deal with
the problem after the performance penalty has already been incurred, Diskeeper 15 is
the only proactive solution that solves the problem in real-time while running transparently
in the background.
